2021 The Bewitched Emperor
357 gram cake
An aggressive character that grows on you. A bitter, barley, bone-dry cup that has the strength to carry the weight of your demands. A bit brash at first, but persuasive in the end. A little goes a long way.
Produced by Mr. Liu Zhao Quan (see 2019 Tiger Hunter Raw Puer) in Mo Jiang county, Puer city, Yunnan. It’s a high grown (approx. 5,000 feet) one bud, three leaf pluck of Yunnan Big Leaf cultivar. Harvested on April 20, 2021 and finished production June 10, 2021.
The Chinese name for this tea is Mi Di Cha, which is roughly translated “Tea of the Bewitched/Charmed Emperor.” The story goes that this tea was offered to Emperor Qian Long (1711-1799) and he became so infatuated with it that he gave the farmer a plaque as an official expression of his enthusiasm for this tea. The plaque was lost in the 1960’s.
